Open Question: How do you recover backup files after recovering other programs on Window XP?

My computer was missing Microsoft works after we had it in the shop from a few viruses. In order to put it back, we had recovery discs from when we bought the computer. We put everything in our backup files in the C:Drive. We can view them, but we want them back in our programs and on our desktop. We also need our bookmarks from the internet, and everything else.
Please help.
